Dr. Helena Gottlieb was born in Siberia to Jewish-Polish parents who escaped Russia during World War II.  Dr. Gottlieb studied to become a doctor in Poland and later emigrated to the United States where she eventually worked as a pediatrician in Brooklyn.  Later she opened a pediatric practice on Staten Island where she worked for over forty years.  Dr. Gottlieb is a self-taught artist, who started with watercolors before moving on to oil paintings.  She has had several exhibitions in Staten Island and Manhattan, and most of her art features nature or children at play.
