Ellen Nathan Singer received a BFA in theater from Columbia University and studied at the Art Students League, from which she received a merit scholarship. Her favorite mediums include pastels, etchings, and woodcuts, and she draws inspiration from her travels in this country and abroad. In 2016 the New Jersey State Council on the Arts awarded her a fellowship. Most recently she received the Allied Artists Salmagundi Club Award and three major awards from Audubon Artists, the Old Print Shop Award, the Silver Medal of Honor and the Gold Medal of Honor for her prints. Since 2021 she has won the award in graphics from the Allied Artists of America at their annual show, was awarded the gold medal in graphics from the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and received a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Among many institutions her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Library of Congress, the Newark Public Library, and in corporate and private collections in this country and abroad. In 2019, she was the recipient of the Lyndquist Purchase Award in the Delta National Small Prints Exhibition. The winning woodcut is now in the permanent collection Bradbury Art Museum of Arkansas State University.
