Thomas Maclay Hoyne III (1924-1989) was a maritime painter and illustrator known for his paintings of sailing and fishing vessels. Formative experiences, such as childhood summers spent in Maine and serving in the Pacific with the US Navy, informed his interest in maritime art. He was largely a commercial artist based in Chicago, but after a mid-life cancer diagnosis, he pivoted to focus on maritime art full time. Hoynes had solo exhibitions at maritime museums and organizations across the country, and was a founding fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists.
